P0701

I have a 1996 Ford Taurus. The check engine light is on and I do not have overdrive. I had it hooked up to a computer and the code is P0701 shift solenoid c performance stuck. I was told that there are 4 solenoids in the transmission. Can anyone tell me if this is true and if so which one is for the overdrive? I have also been reading a lot about a retaining clip. Could this actually be my problem instead of the solenoid?

there is no 701 code. your problem is more than like likely the overdive unit has failed a seal or clutch pak the overdrive is operated by a servo not a solenoid it is under spring pressure and the clip they are more than likely talking about is one of them in the pic. it's on side of trans.
