are my wheel hub assmebly bad

i have 1996 ford explorereddie bauer 4wd and when i put it in 4wd and 4low it makes a growling nosie what could it be

Check the transfer case to make sure the fluids are full and clean. Also, check the front differential fluids. Make sure the bearing in the differential and transfer case don't have play.
