1996 Ford Aspire I can't FIND the starter!

The OTC DIY Guide (starts with "H" ends with "s") I have guide (which I think little of, only MY opinion) has the diagram for a manual transmission and says autos are different, but does NOT document the difference on the automatic transmission model's starter and it's location or removal replacement information. It's NOT where the one on the Manual tranny models is.

They only show a picture of the manual one, that does not show the location or where it is, stating it's under the distributor on the transmission bell housing - on the manual transmission model. NOTHING on the auto tranny model.. I own two near identical Aspires, both Auto trans, and am trying to remove the one on a vehicle with dead engine that's starter cranked like a HORSE!. Can't do it if I can't find it.

Please help!

Don't blame the manual. That's the information the manufacturer released. I have an expensive Alldata program and have the same thing. The starter has to be bolted to the bellhousing on one side or the other so it shouldn't be impossible to find.

Here are the instructions they gave with the automatic



ith Automatic Transaxle

Disconnect battery ground cable.
Remove two upper starter motor mounting bolts.
Raise and support vehicle.
Remove two manifold to cylinder block bracket bolts, then the bracket.
Remove mounting bracket to support bracket bolt.
Remove support bracket.
Remove two nuts and washers that secure mounting bracket to starter motor.
Disconnect the "B" and "S" terminal connectors at starter solenoid.
Remove lower starter motor mounting bolt.
Remove starter motor.
Reverse procedure to install. Torque starter motor retaining bolts to 23-34 ft lb .
