1996 Chevrolet Corsica Wont stay running

I smelled a electrical burning last week one time. Then this week it drove fine until yesterday it stopped on me. Now it will start then it shakes and the shuts off. Wehad one person look at it and he said the bearing is froze or locked upand cant be fixed. My husband thinks it something simpler. Doyou think it couldbe something else
