I once repaired a throttle cable on a Camry, for a Lady in a hurry to get to Atlanta, They had "called in the family" for her relative. She was "Stranded" in a parking lot not far from my house....I had pulled over, to put the doors back on my Jeep, when she approached me.

It was about 10:00 PM and there were no parts stores open. My town is 3 hours from Atlanta. She was not a real happy camper, and sorta had no other way to get there, other than someone to take her.

I'm sorta a "Hoarder" when it comes to keeping "Repair" things, I might be able to use later on.

The inner cable was all that broke, and it was not very long. I took the lady to my house and my wife kinda took care of her, while I began my "McGyvering"

I took the brake cable off of a Grand-Youngin's bicycle, and looked in a small parts drawer and found 2 little "Barrel Thingees" that you slide over cables, and tighten the screw down to lock it in place (might be called a cable stop).

We went back to her car and I was confident this would fix it!................NOT!!! The cable diameter was too big.

I knew that the "Shift" cables on a 10 Speed bicycle were smaller than the brake cable I had.....So off to the bike shop we went, the lady was uneasy, for I was going to the bike shop, that would most certainly, be closed.

Remember

---McGyver Mentality---

I drove down the side and to the dumpster, behind the bike shop. When I opened it up.

Luckily, they had been fixin' some bikes!!!

I coulda probably repaired 20 cars, with a broken cable issue!!!

The smaller, used bike cable was a perfect fix, I was able to use the molded on "stop" on the used cable, on the Throttle body end, and I used a "Barrel Dealee" on the pedal end.

When she came back thru, from Atlanta, She left me a Thank you letter and a nice, 50 some-odd piece Craftsman socket set, at my back door.

Let me know if I can "McGyver" for you....Or was that enough?

If you need more help, pics may help me, help you!
