My BMW 318ti ignition switch is turned off and will not turn with the key in it or out, but indicator lights are lit and I have to disconnect the battery to get the lights to go off.
One day, I parked my car, turned the ignition off and the car kept running. I could turn the key in a complete 360 degree circle and could pull the key out, but the car engine kept running. I had to kill the motor by stalling it. I then tried to start it up and it would not crank, but the indicator lights were still on.
I could insert the key and it would still turn 360 degrees, but nothing would happen. I then removed the battery cable to keep the battery from running down. Later, after a couple of hours, I reconnected the battery and inserted the key and it will not turn the switch at all. The switch will not move with our without the key and the indicator lights are still lit until I disconnect the battery. Could it be the ignition switch or something else.
