I have recently bought a 1995 Volkswagen Jetta. The trunk will not open by any means. Please give me some ideas on how to open the trunk.

You will have to fold the rear seats forward and crawl though the back and then remove the panel to manually open the locking mechanism.

Once the truck lid is open, you can closer inspect the individual components to see what the
root causes is.
