Do you have cruise control?

Yeah, it has cruise control, and that was my initial thought.... It happens both when the cruise control is set to on (but not set to a speed), and when it is set to off. Any ideas?

I would pull the cruise fuse and re test, it may be an internal electrical malfunction, try this, i am looking at the system for further clues.

Thank you for the advice, I'll give that a shot. Some new issues that I have to imagine are related: Earlier tonight, while shifting into 3rd, the clutch stuck to the floorboard. I was able to hit the hazards and get to a parking lot, and once I pulled the clutch up with my foot, it seemed alright again. Does this help?

You have a hydraulic operated clutch, i would say that you have a leak in the system causing the pedal to not return, check the fluid and top up as required, the leak will be at the slave cyl or the master cyl, both will have to be inspected, topping up the fluid and pumping the clutch may give you enough pedal to drive to a mechanic for repairs.

Would that be causing the problem with the car accelerating itself, or are these two totally different issues?

It may well be the cause, as you hold the pedal down in gear, the fluid leaks and releases the clutch causing it to drive with the pedal still in the down position.
