cleaning egr valve

You can try and clean it i haven't had much luck cleaning them every time i have tried to clean one the light always came back on eventually.You would turn it over push down the pintle and put some carbon cleaner in the hole let it soak in there at least an hour then spin the pintle slow wire a torx bit then spray it out with brake cleaner.Also make sure the egr port isn't clogged.But i recommend you just replace the egr valve.If you shop around there not too expensive.

il have to give that a try i took it down for smog and it failed they told me to clean the egr and replace the spark plugs and bring it back for a retest

I would also make sure the egr port is clear with the egr valve off start the engine for a few second's then engine should race up and you should hear a large exhaust leak.Do you have any code's?What were your reading's that the car failed?

it passed the 15 mph and failed the 25 mph my friend has the paper with the readings i havent baught the car yet but im helping him do repairs
