how do you remove the two bulbs behind the heater controls

I have the dash panel apart and the bulb and sockets are exposed and free from the unit,but i just can not pull the bulbs out.they are just too small for finger pull.I tried rubber coated tweasers but only broke one of the bulbs.do they even come out or is it a socket and bulb one piece assembly?( heater and air conditioner controls,2 bulbs light up for night driving so you can see what you setting the temperature to)1995 olds ciera sl.3.1L
