Tempature gauge immediately goes to half

95 Maxima temp gauge goes to half (normal) when power is applied.Fall's to cold when power is cut off. No other problem's w/ gauge.. Heat,operating temp is also fine. Sending unit or short? Thanks.......John

if its reading half way thats not overheating.you could need a coolant temp. sendsor.

i would replace the coolant temp sensor.try disconnecting the temp.sensor.then watch the gauge then youll have you answer.looks like a nice car.ty for using 2carpros

Disconnected temp sensor as instructed, and gauge stills spring's to the half position.

As mentioned, no luck disconnecting temp sensor. Gauge still springs to half when powered.Is my next step the gauge?

youll need to remove the speedo head and unplug it all the gauges if they return to zero there good

Speedo head? Location?. I'm assuming that its either the gauge itself or the sending unit? Sounds as if these are the only things that could a faulty reading. Thanks

the gauge is in the speednometer with all the other gauges.youll need to removethe

top dash so u can unplug the head.so u can see if the gauge drops to 0
