It started about a week ago.
I had to pick something up for work.
Got into my car; started up fine and went to reverse no problem.
As I started down my road, my rpms began to go up and down and I started to lose power. I tried to to press my foot on the gas and the result was the cars rpms reeving up but no change on my speed it continued to decelerate. I finally came to a stop and tried to accelerate but even then car would move painfully slooww. I was doing about 4,000 to 5,000 rpm and my car was crawling forward. I stopped again and cut the car off. Sat for about ten minutes and tried to go again... Yielding the same results. Oddly enough I was able to put the car into "2" and it drove completely fine on my way home.

I left car sit for about a week, trying to diagnosis what was wrong with it. I got into it and decided to drive around the block. I put it into reverse and then into "2" instead of "D" and preceded to drive down the road. Once I reached a speed of about 35 mph; I shifted into drive and the car was driving completely fine.

I was able to "drive" the car by going into "2" and then "D".

Yesterday I took the car to run a quick errand and I did the "2" and then "D" thing and I shifted it, it went into third gear ... And kinda stayed there. Like it wouldn't shift out, but if I slowed dow it seemed like it it would completely disengage until I was able to get to a slow enough speed to shift it back into "2" .

Any ideas on what could be the cause ?

take a trans guy so he can scan it sounds like either a solenoid or valve body problem.
