my 95 has a 96 engine and a 97 transmission. Runs in safe mode (3rd gear only)

I was told the TCU needed to be replaced with one from a 97, so we purchased and replaced that, but still runs in safe mode. Just trying to figure out what to do next. Any help please !!!!

Was the ECU upgraded to 96 specifications?

That I am not sure of, the engine was replaced before we purchased the car. I had no idea we were getting into more mess then before. Is there an easy way to check that?

Yes. Find the part 3 on the ECU and call a Mitsubishi dealer.
