why my cougar wont blow hot heat until i put rpm up to 2 then i get heat go back to idle and it get cold again

I start the car let it warm up and turn on heat and get cold air until i press the gas rpm go to 2 and i get good heat let off gas gradually go cold air car dont over heat i let it sit and idle for 1/2 hour do over heat
