transmission and clutch

I recently went to get my jeep fixed because it was not catchin in 2nd and 4th gear. when i took it to the shop they said i needed a new transmission and a new clutch. I was wondering is that possible to need both replaced at the same time?

When I shifted gears and tried putting it into second gear it would make a loud scrapping/ crunching noise and i would have to put it in third or fifth gear to continue driving.

Then internal damage to trans cheaper to replace. The clutch shaould be while trans is replaced

MAYBE IT'S THE CLUTCH PEDAL (RESERVOIR) AND OR SLAVE CYLINDER

COULD IT BE THAT YOU ARE NOT GETTING FULL PRESSURE PLATE TRAVEL (TRANNY STILL MOVING) AS YOU TRY TO SHIFT

RATHER, ITS NOT FULLY DISENGAGING BECAUSE THE PEDAL SYSTEM AIN'T WORKING RIGHT?
