bad fuel pump

Probably, but I would just replace the tank unit. Small pieces of the old pump may get lodged in an inline pump.

Don't forget this is a high pressure system, and a few special connectors will need to be made with the fuel line tool, or it will leak. This applies to an add on pump, no tool needed for an OEM install.
