On the manuals I look at they say there is no ignition module for this car because it is integrated into the PCM. Here are the wiring diagrams so you can see for yourself (below) I have the PCM location for you if you want to try a used one. What problem are you having? Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know what happens.

Its like its not getting any fire at all.But after an hour it starts up everytime.Seems to be doing it more often now that its wamrer weather. It never dies driving down the road it only happens after turning it off. We now know when it doesnt start if you put gas or starting fluid in the carb it starts up.So could it be the fuel relay or whateever its called.

If pump runs then relay is good need to check fuel pressure when it won't start. should be 35-45 psi

your vehicle uses the GEM (generic electronic module) and it is located behind the center of the dash.

no problem, just making sure you typed the correct vehicle in. for the Ford, like Doc said it does not have a separate ignition module, it uses the powertrain control module (PCM) and also has Fords generic electric module (GEM).

for the Chevy issue, is the check engine light on in the dash panel? could be as simple as a bad mass airflow (MAF) sensor, but if you have engine light on then you should take it to local auto part store and ask them to retrieve your vehicle's check engine trouble codes. that will help pinpoint the issue. you can post the code(s) you retrieve here and i will follow up.

1336 means you need to "teach" the computer to read the crank sensor correctly. you will need a scan tool for this.

install scan tool
vehicle in Park or Neutral
engine coolant temp. at 158 degrees F
engage parking brake
block vehicle drive wheels
turn all accessories Off
enable the crankshaft position system variation learning procedure with the scan tool
raise engine speed to 3920 RPM and release throttle as soon as the engine cuts out

The scan tool should indicate that the crankshaft position system variation has been performed

Afterwards, use the scan tool and select DTC, CLEAR INFO. Then start and warm engine to normal operating temp. Select DTC, SPECIFIC, then enter DTC P1336. Operate vehicle. Scan tool will then indicate wether the test passed.

I have visited this web site for info onto getting my 93-94 ford ranger running, it had stopped suddenly down the highway and I had it towed home where it has been sitting. The fuel pump primes, engine turns over, relay switches checked Ok, timing belt removed and new one put on, Old one torn!, and timing marks line up, one of the two coil paks replaced, condensor swapped out with one known to work well. Recently gone to vehicle wreckers to get new DIS module or ignition control module(got 2 units in event one did not work),put new spark plugs in, went to start truck and it turns over, but still will not fire? The only apparent problem seems like the crankshaft postion sensor? Is their anyway to test it?Or other solutions to problem? Their is no spark at all.

Yes I have a good DMM, that can test diode inductance, resistance coninuity well, so that is not a problem and a bunch of smaller ones with limited features.

Thankyou

If you would check the crankshaft position sensor and make sure it is plugged in and that it isn't damaged. If that is good then I need you to check for voltage at the coils at the red wire with the light green stripe. With key on engine off you should have battery voltage there. Let me know what you find and we will take it from there.

My 1987 ford Ranger 2.9l V6 runs for about 10 minutes and quits. Will restart after waiting an hour or so and then it quits again in 10 minutes. Complete loss of spark. Replaced TFI module. Did not help problem. Started checking with light and volt ohm meter. The coil has power but the run terminal on the plug to the ignition module does not. This is likely the cause of not spark. Why does power fail after running for a while? The wiring diagram shows that the coil and the ignition module power come form the same place. Should I just rewire the power to the ignition module or is there some other easy fix.
