1995 Ford Other Lincoln Towncar, battery won't charge

1995 Lincoln Town Car. New alternator installed but battery won't charge. Have run diags. Cannot find cause. Original alternator would not charge batt but the batt. indicator light on dash did not come on. After installing new alternator still no charging the battery but now the batt light on dash comes on and stays on. ??
