car isnt working

I gave an 95 eagle talon tsi, the car didnt start one day, it would turn over but would not ignite, i got it to the mechanic shop, and they boosted it and it started. But it wouldnt run good, like it was out of oxygen(shaking), they said the timing belt needed to be changed but are not sure. i needhelp to figure out what it is.
