1995 Chevrolet Van shifting

The van does not shift out of 2nd into 3rd and at the same time this problem occurred the speedometer stopped working. The speed sensor has been changed. It made no difference in it's performance. Oceanside transmission says there is no vacuum line, on this vehicle, that effects this performance. You or one of your experts suggested the shift solenoid and to get the trouble codes pulled. Please explain this. What do I do with pulled trouble codes? Thank you, Jeanne

Your vehicle has an OBD2 computer system. OBD stands for On Board Diagnosis. If the check engine light is on, there will be trouble codes stored in the computer. If that is the case, you need to have the computer scanned to identify the codes that are stored. Hopefully, one will be a code for the transmission. Each code for the vehicle indicates a different problem. So, by getting the codes, you should be able to determine where the problem is coming from.

If the vehicle can be driven, take it to a nationally recognized parts store and have them scan the computer for you and then tell you the codes they find. From that, we should be able to determine where the problem is coming from. Also, most parts stores provide this service for free unless you are in California.
