interior light won't turn off until the car is turned off

I have included a description of the interior lights operation. It sounds possible that the RAPIE module that it describes may be the culprit, in the fact that it is energizing the courtesy lamps relay, or the relay sticks until power is removed.

So there is a separate module that energizes a relay to turn on and then delay off the lights....I'll see if I can find the relay first and ck operation then look for the rapie module....

any idea of location? i'll try the old tap test on the relay first then go from there. Hopefully the parts are still available. this one is hard to find almost anything for, even a set of springs has to be ordered out, waiting on them and struts now then I get to tackle this oddball....

Interior Lights With Illuminated Entry Circuit Description


Illuminated entry is controlled by the RAP/Illuminated Entry Module (RAPIE) . Battery voltage to power the RAPIE Module is applied to terminal A6 at all times. The RAPIE Module is grounded at terminal A5 to ground G400.

When the Keyless Entry Module is used to unlock the doors or to activate the courtesy lights, it grounds terminal A7 (CKT 394) of the RAPIE module. The RAPIE module then grounds the coil of the Courtesy Lights Relay through terminal A8 (CKT 1393). The relay energizes, closing its contacts and providing a path to ground for the courtesy lights.

Battery voltage from Fuse C1 and Fuse C3 is supplied at all times to the header and courtesy lamps respectively. The header and courtesy lamps ground through CKT 1495 and the contacts of the Courtesy Lights Relay to ground G401 (CKT 1250).

The RAPIE Module turns off the interior lights by removing the ground from the Courtesy Lights Relay coil, causing the relay to de-energize. This will occur after 20 seconds , or if the RAPIE Module senses battery voltage being applied to either terminal B1 (the ignition input) or terminal A1 (the crank input).

I had a simular problem wit my 1980 fleetwood turn out sumone put change in my ashtray and a penny in my cig lighter wuz causin my floorboard lights to stay on an i never used the lighter but i use the ashtray so between sliding it in and out somtimes it would cut off thats how i noticed it had sumthin weird goin on and wuz not an actual problem probly has nothin to do wit your problem jus thought id share a funny but annoyin headache of an experience lesson here never put change in the ashtray for sum reason plenty people do
