Reverse gear, manual transmission not working as it should (grinding)

I have a 1994 VW Golf (1.8L) and today my reverse gear "broke" it makes obscene sounds and is very rough, all of my forward gears work well but my clutch seems to be a bit lighter (if that means anything) what I was wondering is if it is possible to replace the reverse gear or if i need to pay another $1800 for a new transmission, seeing as i just got a new one put in 3 weeks ago.

3 weeks??? it should be covered under warranty????

If by new you meant "installed a used transmission" then I would
say that the new/used transmission has developed the same problem.

Reverse gear noise is common on the 020 transmissions when they get old.

Are you sure this isn't just a hydraulic clutch issue?

I'm pretty sure this is cable operated...

You're right but the cable could be shredding too.

It is a cable operated clutch and I'm almost positive that the gear is blown, I dont know much about cars but when I'm on a flat all it does it make loud grinding sounds and if it even moves the car it clicks and is super uneven.

Sure, it's possible and i am sure they will find many other problems that will likely come up to that number anyway. Rebuilding would still be more reliable than a used one as you have already found out.
