My partners 1994 Tarago has recently caught fire and will be written off soon.
As a safety precaution, I would like to drain the half a tank of petrol. Obviously this model has an 'Anti-Siphoning' mechanism of some type, because I tried it for a laugh and my hose wouldn't touch the fuel.

I noticed a plug of some type on the bottom of the tank, is this the only way of draining the tank?
If so, can the plug be put back in, in between small tins?
Sadly, I will be doing it, using a 5 litre Gerry can.

That is the drain plug and apart from that, there is only the fuel lines from which you can use a pump to siphon but not a good idea unless the wiring is done correctly because any sparking while attaching the pump connections can result in a fire.

You can plug the drain plug back but be prepared to to spill some over yourself.

A better way is to get more cans with at least 2 funnels and when one is full, switch over to the next can. You would spill less fuel this way.
