starter stuck on wile engen runs

i replaced starter and relay under hood the engen runs with relay in but starter stuck . i un hooked relay engen will still start and run but why dose it stick when the relay is hooked up

if i start the truck the starter stays ingaged .it will also turnover with the key out of the ignition
how ever if i remove the starter relay in the box under the hood you can start the truc and it operates with the key . it willstart and run

Check and test the ignition switch-could also be the starter motor solenoid
