this is a vacuum operated system when you get no vacuum so check for a vacuum leak first see attached pic, then check vacuum motors to see if they are working or a line came off or broke. due to age of your car the vaccum control may be leaking there see pics all three pics show vacuum and what opens what and what color the vacuum lines are. if one is broken/rotted you can replace with vacuum line from auto parts
