1994 Mitsubishi Galant Dead short

I took my car to a mechanic.I at first thought it was an alternator ,But,I was told by the mechanic it was a "dead short",How do I begin looking for it? Should I remove all fuses then start looking or has anyone got better ideas? Thanks in advance!
