I took my rear passenger side wheel off to replace the drum brake and found it covered in grease. My neighbor said my axle seal is toast. I've look online and it seems like a possible DIY job. What's not clear is which axle type it is. The car is a jeep grand cherokee laredo, inline 6, 4 liter. Do you know if I need to open the differential case and find a c-clip, or is this the type that will just come out after removing the 4 nuts that hold it in place?

this has the c-clip type axle so you will need to drain it and remove the clip. still fairly easy job.

OK. What am I draining and how do I drain it? What is the replacement fluid? Thought there was just grease involved.

And lastly, is this the easy outer seal I'm replacing, or is this the seal that requires removal and replacement of the bearings?
