if the tranny heats up will it overheat the engine?

inherated a trooper i dont know why it was parked no one to ask? so i picked it up, sat for three years, i put in a batt. started right up.. i noticed after i moved the trooper there was a oil spot where there was a leak.. i checked the oil it was fine clean... so while it is at idle i checked the tranny fliud empty... so i drive it to my house there is a weird smell and a lil smoke coming from under the drivers door when i step out. the temp gadge was not even 1/4 way to operation temp... oil perssure gadge reads 60 when cold then around 30 when warmed up and goes up when i give it gas.. ive tryed to get the truck to overheat by letting it idle in my driveway for a while but it doesnt get hot.... but there is a lil smoke coming from somewhere by the tranny.. i dont know if it is just stuff burning off that has got under there over the years? or the tranny or the cat? there is a smell but not like rotten eggs or sulfer.. it could be old oil and grime burning off i dont know... please help any feed back on this is greatly appreated
