Hesitation when accelerating unless putting pedal to the floor

Engine runs erratically wants to die while idling and loses power during acceleration if check engine light comes on truck runs fine.

The idle could be a vacuum leak, bad idle air control valve... If the check engine light is on, have the computer scanned. Most parts stores will do it for free. It should identify trouble codes that will identify where the problem is coming from.

The check engine light only comes on periodicly never when I want it to. Plus the truck runs fine when it is on it displays none of the symptoms that it has when it is off.

Check the wiring harness to the PCM for a loose connection or damge to the plug. Keep in mind, even though the light is off, there could be a stored trouble code.
