I have installed a used transmission and have more problems

I have a 1994 ford e350. I swapped out the tranny because it was shifting into reverse and wasnt shifting into drive at all. I bought a used tranny and swapped it out. Now the tranny shifts into reverse and will not shift from 1st into higher gear. Any idea? At the moment the van doesn't shift from 1st gear into higher gear.
On the model of the vehicle I stated its a F350 because there was no choice for an E350. I believe its the same engine though. 7.3 diesel.

I personally didn't but I bought it from someone I trust and he said it was working fine.

It was same year but not the same vehicle. The tranny I put on it was from an Econoline and I have a box van.They both have different ID numbers on them but the electrical connections on both sides of the tranny are identical.

you might wanna check with tranny shop to see if there is any difference in the internals/controls/sensors.

Being that this is from 2011 this wouldn't help.. but for anyone else that comes across this and can relate, even though a transmission was working fine when it was removed... you also have to consider how long it was sitting, was it stored outdoors and exposed to the elements: rain/snow/excessive heat etc... Being in the transmission rebuilding business we get these all the time... putting a used trans in from a reputable source that was working fine when removed but sat through 8 seasons of rain, snow, sleet, hail and summer heat... and of course, they no longer work the same as when they were removed.

Thanks for the additional information. Some folks don't realize that leaving some parts setting around is actually worse for them than if they were in constant use. Seals go bad, fluids cause gumming issues, sediment in the fluids settles out and blocks passages and some items that may not be in fluid corrode. All leads to issues when the parts are now put back into service.
