1994 Dodge Spirit over heated

Yesterday my 1994 Dodge Spirit over heated. I went to a friends house about 25 miles away to pick up a ceiling fan. I took the interstate so I was driving at high speeds. But when I got about a mile from my home I noticed the temperature gage was all the way on H. I pulled in my driveway and opened the hood and there was steam coming from somewhere on the passenger side of the engine. It was antifreeze and steam pushing out pretty fast, like a tea pot. I haven't driven the car yet since yesterday, but it will crank and it idled great. There's no noise except for a little hissing. I've checked some of the hoses, but didn't see any cracks. What do u think it might be?

If it is on the passenger side of the engine, it sounds like a bad fuel pump. There is a weep hole under the pump. When the bearing or seal goes bad in the pump, it will leak coolant from there. Check that and let me know what you find.

Would that make steam and coolant spray out the top of the engine? That's what it was doing, and yea it was on the passenger side.

I would think it would spray out the bottom of the car... but yes, it would cause coolant loss and steam.

You know, the water pump pulley could be spraying the coolant to the top of the engine.

Ok, cause the steam and coolant was spraying out the top right behind the distributor cap like a tea_pot. I went outside and started it, and it runs just fine. But I'm scared to drive it. I know very little about cars.

If it is leaking that much coolant, you really shouldn't drive it until it is repaired.

Hey, it was my thermostat. It was stuck, and wasn't opening. I replaced it and the car is running great. My temperature gage is working better too. Thanks for ur help though.
