1994 Acura Integra Air filter question

Hey we just took apart the top half of my engine and rebuilt it. The mechanic left off my air filter cover box and I was wondering if it's ok to leave it off or should I put it back on.!?!

Also my car has 208 hundred thousand miles I was not sure on how to put it up in the space.

The manufacturer wouldn't spend the money to put it there if it wasn't needed. If you're referring to what I think you are, it holds the filter down to create a seal so air can't bypass the filter. Also, I don't think this applies to your car, but you have to look where the mass air flow sensor sits. There can't be any leaks in the fresh air tube between that sensor and the throttle body. If any air sneaks in without going through the mass air flow sensor, it won't get measured and it won't be included in the fuel metering calculations. If air enters your mass air low sensor before it gets to the air filter, and that air can get in at the filter, you'll have some running problems due to insufficient fuel. If air hits the air filter first, then the mass air flow sensor, that won't be an issue.
