3vz-fe engine. the problem is the engine check light turns on while acceleration and stays on, I have had it diagnosed with a malfunction or failure of a knock down sensor. I am thinking of replacing it myself so I was wondering where the sensor was since I do not want to spend a lot.

The knock sensor for the v6 engine is under the intake manifold and on the side of the block on the four cylinder. On the v6 you will need to remove the intake to replace the sensor

Here are diagrams of the location for both engines.

Check out the diagrams (below).

Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.

Cheers

Hi there, The knock sensor is located on the top of the block between the cylinder heads (see picture). Its function is to detect any detention that creates a specific wave length vibration, or more commonly called ping due to incorrect ignition timing, when it sensors this ignition knock it sends a signal to the ECU to alter the ignition timing accordingly this is actually done many times a second and you do not notice any change, to test you can set a timing light up on the engine and watch the timing mark as you lightly tap on the engine block with a small hammer this vibration should trigger a timing change that is visible with the timing light, the timing will re set it self when you stop knocking.
