1993 Nissan Pulsar pulsar will not start

Do you have a good strong spark?

how do I know if I have a strong spark?

Take a spark plug lead off one of the spark plugs, use a spare plug and earth to engine, attach plug lead and crank over, do not hold..... you want to see a bright blue spark and it should crack when it fires.

Hi I have got new spark plugs and have tested there is no spark at all
a friend of mine thinks it may be the distributor cap worn out but he is not a mechanic
can you advise on my next step I have some tools and a multi meter

please advise ??

You need to run a diagnostic scan first, I need to know if there are any fault codes set.

How do I run a diagnostic test what tools do I need and what steps do I need to do please.

You need a OBD11 scanner and it will plug into a port under the dash, a mechanic will do a code read, some, parts outlets will do it for free, you will just have to make a few phone calls

I have done some google searching will this work on my car as its a Nissan pulsar 1993 and it says on the internet that the scanners work on cars after 1996?

OK, sorry I was thinking EFI, so start from the beginning with all the basics, do a compression test, check that the carby has fuel supply from the fuel pump, spark plugs are clean and correct gap, distributor cap is not cracked and the carbon brush is ok, crank the engine and see if you have a good spark from the coil and check for a good spark at the plugs, do this and let me know what you find.

The carby has fuel supply from the fuel pump, the distributor cap has no cracks of any sought any looks fine spark plugs are brand new and are correct gap. There is no spark at the spark plugs and the coil is giving power as have checked with multimeter. What is carbon brush?
Do you need any pictures of the engine like distributor or anything
Car wont start.
I have had my uncle have a look at the car he has cleaned out the battery connections withy crc and the distributor with crc we waited for the crc to dry and then tested still no spark and no start.

I feel that the igniter in the distributor has failed, I would go get a second hand distributor and fit it, this is not an un common problem.

Is fitting another distributor a easy job

Not hard, but you must mark it so it goes back in exactly the say way, body and shaft, get the engine on TDC #1 check which lead the rotor is pointing to, and re fit the same, you will need to check the timing with a timing light, but if you put it back exactly the same it will be close enough to run and do the timing when you get a light.

Say if I use a distributor from 1994 or 1992 nissan pulsar with the same engine ga16de and same transmission will this be ok?

Same engine will be fine, TDC#1 is top dead centre #1 cylinder, remove dist cap mark a reference point on distributor where #1 cly lead would line up with, and turn engine till rotor points to this mark, check front engine pulley timing mark should be at or just before the ) mark, this will be TDC, this will be close enough to get the engine to fire up with the new dist fitted with all reference marks lining up.

Thank you for your help and advice regarding Nissan pulsar 1993 the distributor was the problem.
After replacing the part car went fine with a little starting fluid and I was able to get around again.
