strut rod aka tension rod

Im running into conflict trying to replace a broken strut rod. If i follow the stack up of thrust washer/bushing/plain washer-meets frame-plain washer/bushing/collar/thrust washer nut/ the plain washers dont allow the collar through,leaving no threads on the end for the large nut.Im wondering if theres misinformation and it just sits against the frame without washer like the early eighties model.Or if the washers labeled plain washer from nissan are wrong somehow.Yikes.

Make sure you have removed all the old parts completely first. New bushings can be very hard to install sometimes and usually have to be compressed a little to get the nut started.

It does'nt have anything to do with bushings. I had the whole thing assembled. Then saw that nissan shows 2 additional washers. I was going by the haynes manual that is seriously lacking in information. With those two washers,the collar simply has nowhere to go. I did order two washers from a site online that claim to be the same but have a diff part # than the ones i got at a local dealer.So I am waiting to see if they actually are different.......stinks!

Are we talking about the end that goes in the frame or the end that goes to the lower control arm?

If it's the frame end then it will be washer, bushing, then pass through the frame and then bushing, washer and nut.

That is how I had it assembled. Then I saw a nissan schematic exploded view of the vehicle shows two additional washers. The rod itself was broken so I didnt have to completely disassemble.Looking at the other side( the passenger side of vehicle),its hard to tell if there is a washer against the frame or just a lip.Which I prob should replace that one as well.This is an older vehicle,im not excited about putting money into.
