Hello!

I'm having a hard time trying to remove the seal on the front of the transfer case. This connects to the front driveshaft, I've removed the shaft no problems but I can't get the seal out, any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

I'M NOT SURE WHAT YOUR SITUATION LOOKS LIKE

...........A PIC FROM YOU MIGHT HELP!

"TRADITIONAL SEALS" ARE PULLED OUT RATHER EZily WITH A "SEAL PULLER"

USUALLY.....YOU CAN "SCRAP BY" ('TIL YOU WISE UP AND BUY A PULLER) BY GENTLY TAPPING A SMALL STRAIGHT BLADE SCREWDRIVER IN THE SIDE OR EDGE OF THE CIRCUMFERENCE OF THE SEAL----BETWEEN THE SEAL AND THE CASE/ BODY.........SNATCH IT OUT AND DRIVE ONE A LITTLE LARGER ONE INTO THE SAME "CRACK" YOU HAVE FORMED (AS YOU JUST HAVE SQUISHED THE OUTSIDE OF THE SEAL INWARD)............THEN PRY IT SIDEWAYS TO POP IT OUT

HERE'S A PIC OR TWO OF MINE IN ACTION

LEMME KNOW IF THIS HELPS OR POST A PIC OF YOUR SITUATION

If you tap at the side of the outer cover, it would come off allowing you easier access of the seal.

WITH A CHEAP SEAL PULLER LIKE MINE....IT'LL BE OUT IN HALF A SECOND!

THE SCREWDRIVER WAY---A MINUTE OR SO, IF YOU ARE MOTIVATED!

IN EITHER CASE, THE COVER COULD REMAIN ON

Hey Medic,

I got it out shortly after typing the previous question. It took a bit of work with the screw driver and getting the angle of approach right. I've fitted the new seal, replaced the shaft. Job done!

I think I'll definitely be adding a cheap seal puller to my tool box though, they aren't worth a great deal but would save a bit of banging on.

Thanks for your help.

GOOD DEAL!

"HARBOR FREIGHT" OR THE "CHEAP TOOL" BASKET AT AN AUTO PARTS MIGHT BE THE 1ST PLACES TO LOOK FOR A SEAL PULLER

...............................A FEW YEARS OF DOING THIS......YOU'LL HAVE A NICE COLLECTION THAT WILL IMPRESS THE OTHER FOLKS THAT MIGHT BE IN NEED!

THE MAIN TRICK YOU MUST LEARN IS ......DON'T LEND 'EM OUT!!!
