my mercury villager shakes and turns off you also have to pump the gas so it will run I've heard its the fuel filter i changed it but it still does it

How long since a tune-up? Any applicable trouble codes? Use a gage and check fuel pressure.

i tuned it up last month it has a check engine light on it stays on

If the datalink connector is under the hood, check these six possible locations. I looked through my info, couldn't find the exact location, sorry.
