PCM Computer?

It's located under the dash, to the left of the steering column.

Under left side dash see diagram easily removed think one bolt and another for terminal connection. Be sure BATT disconected and touch hands to metal on car to get rid of static before removal

will a computer from a automatic work in a manual shift ?

i would think so,especially if the same year.i've gone the other way before on a chevy.put an auto trans in a stick and kept same computer.

I have a 1993 Ford Tempo with 157,000 miles that has ran great untill recently when the weather has warmed up. It starts sputtering very badly and dying after the car warms up, then will not start until I let it sit for about 30 minutes. I was told it is most likely the TFI module so I ordered one and have it on the way but would like to replace it myself. I would like to know if I need any special tools and the easiest way to replace it. Thanks.

i googled this in ten seconds! google is YOUR friend! you also could have had your old module checked for free at the parts store like autozone! by the way, if your good with your hands you can change TFI without removing distributor! be sure and tell us if it fixes your problem!

How do I reset the computer on this car the idle is crazy high and adjusted to it's lowest point. I have checked the plate all is well.

-To reset the computer you have to remove the negative battery cable, turn the ignition to on, then hold the brake pedal down for 5-10 seconds I believe. Another thing that could be wrong is the throttle position sensor is going bad.

Hey guys!

Did someone remove the engine computer from that car before ? I tried to access it yesterday and after removing the plastic shield and metal shield under the steering columb, if i look underneith, i can see it but it's like if i need to remove the entire dash in order to pull it out.

Did someone did that before ? If yes, can you tell me some info about the procedure ?

i've pulled them out of older models. i dont know if they have made it more difficult? i didn't have to remove dash!just unbolted and slid forward and down. might have removed harness first? do a search of this forum and also google it!

When trying to start car, you can hear the fuel pump hum with the key in the first position, car will not start UNTIL pump STOPS humming. Problem is sometimes fuel pump WONT stop humming for up to 30 minutes. When turning the key to the first position, you can hear the computer "click", also "clicks" again when fuel pump finally shuts off (stops humming) Wondering if it could be a faulty computer? F.Y.I. Car has spark when it wont start. Any help/suggestions on this topic would be greatly appreciated. :) Thank you

This could be a faulty computer .. but I would try swapping out the fuel pump relay first ..!!

First off I would like to thank you again for your help. Second, I was speaking to a local ford mechanic and he stated that ford tempos are notorious for having the crimps come loose on the ignition switch. He said that this could be causing my intermittent problem..........Whats your thoughts on this?

ALL fords not just the tempo have issues with the ignition switch ...LOL .. but if i'm reading your post's correctly .. the switch is working .. it's sending power to the pump relay and onto the pump .. when you say it turns on pump at first position, do you mean when the ignition lights come on the pump starts running ? .... it seems to me that the relay is not de-energizing (turning off) this is the clicking noise you hear ... clicking on..clicking off ...also if the pump is running and your getting spark then the car should be firing up unless you have way too much fuel(flooding) going to cylinders or you have no compression ... take out a spark plug after a short crank .. and see if it is wet or totally soaked through !! let me know

Yes the pump starts humming as soon as you turn the key to the first position (ignition lights illuminate) sometimes it will stop in 3 seconds or so, sometimes it will run for up to 30 minutes...........The car WILL NOT start until pump stops humming, as soon as it stops, car starts right up first try ( I don't think its flooded) You guys rock!! :) Keep up the good work

OK you really need to swap out the relay .. it's a cheap and easy fix .. I think the relay is jamming up and not clicking off when it should !! let me know

You are the man!!! Replaced relay and it seems to have taken care of my issue. Fuel pump primes in 3 seconds then shuts right off like it should. Car is firing right up each time. Thank you SO much for your help, you saved me a lot of wasted time and money, I would highly recommend you guys to anybody!!! :)
