1993 Ford Probe A/C Unit Removal

A/C compressor unit bearing bad. Tech says need new compressor. Use car very little - 3500 miles/year in San Diego. Expense: over $1000.00. Can't afford it!
Is it possible to remove the compressor, and run the car without it? The belt appears to drive the alternator, water pump and power steering. Question is: are those other units in the same place in the non-air conditioned car as in those with A/C?
We would be grateful for your advice.

If you page down a bit, you will find the diagram for a NON-AC vehicle. I looked and to be honest, they look different. So, what I would recommend trying is this. Check with you local parts store and see if there is an idler pulley available for your vehicle that can take the place of the compressor. I have seen them used before, Basically, they take the place of the compressor. However, they seem somewhat hard to find.

Other than that, the only thing you can do is replace the compressor. NOTE: That doesn't mean you need a working compressor, just one with a good bearing so it doesn't make noise. You might find one in a salvage yard.

IF IT'S THE COMPRESSOR THAT IS THE PROBLEM--UNPLUG THE CLUTCH WIRE, AND JUST LET IT FREE WHEEL ON THE CLUTCH PULLEY

IF IT'S THE CLUTCH ASSEMBLY THAT HAS THE BAD BEARING, WHY NOT JUST REPLACE IT? THIS MIGHT BE A LOT CHEAPER THAN DOING BOTH THE COMPRESSOR AND THE CLUTCH. THIS WOULD ALSO "LEAVE THINGS AS THEY ARE" WITH NO NEED TO MODIFY

FACTOR IN, I'M SPEAKING GENERICALLY, I DO NOT KNOW EXACTLY HOW YOUR SYSTEM IS SETUP. ON MOST CARS, MY METHOD WOULD WORK
