my friend owns a 93 aerostar (283,000 mil, doesn't burn oil) that has ran like a champ until 4days ago....here's the issue... when starting it doesn't want to turn over but will adventually start... it's a 6 cylinder and appears to be missing on 2-4of the 6cylinders alternating at different times .....runs real rough but when given more gas it levels out some...until you come to a stop...then it wants to die...... just a guess i'm thinking it needs new plugs, wires, rotor cap ect yet my friend differs on that lol...he's a guy lol... sooooo
what do you think?
I appreciate you taking the time to check into this and replying,

Check for vacuum leaks, make sure the plug wires are firmly settled on the plugs and coil/distributor cap. Also make sure the plug wires are in good shape. Measure their impedance and let me know what you get.

HAS SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE BEEN DONE?

THAT'S THE STUFF YOU SHOULD DO AT GIVEN INTERVALS...FOUND IN OWNERS MANUALS AND ALSO REPAIR MANUALS....STUFF LIKE YOU DISCUSSED,AND EVEN A FUEL FILTER....AND MORE!

2 EXAMPLES

https://www.2carpros.com/questions/2005-ford-focus-power-steering

CATCHING UP IS SORTA A GIVEN!.....DIAGNOSING IS ANOTHER THING, IS YOUR CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON?....IF YOU HAVE A SCANNER OR CAN GET HIM OVER TO A POPULAR AUTO PARTS STORE, THEY WILL USUALLY CODE FOR FREE!!!

LETS LISTEN TO 'EM AT THE STORE, MANY OF THE GUYS KNOW THEIR STUFF....BUT JUST TO PLAY IT SAFE, RETURN HERE WITH THE EXACT NUMBERS THEY WILL BE SOMETHING LIKE THIS: P0367, AND THERE MAY BE SEVERAL.

I MAY NOT BE YOUR FIX (IMMA OLD JEEP AND OLD FORD GUY), BUT THERE ARE MANY WHO CAN EXPLAIN THE MEANINGS, AND HELP YOU IMPLEMENT THE RIGHT THINGS TO DO.

YOUR TURN

Medic's right. If you can get it to somewhere that will scan for codes for free, or for cheap, do so. That and scheduled maintenance stuff is the first place to start.
