when its cold outside (about 45 degrees or lower) my car will idle way too high. it will idle anywhere from 2500 up to 3500 for about 5-10 minutes before slowly going back down. i'm thinking it might be the idle air control valve but is there anything else it could be? i really don't want my engine to burn up.

Clean out the idle air control valve and see what happens
