93 cadillac surge and stall in reverse

I have a 93 Cadillac sts seville with the 4.6 V8 Northstar. When i accelerate the car runs fine, but when i let off the gas it surges or****** as the idle goes down and the car slows down. A couple of times the car stalled when in reverse. i replaced the plugs. any help would be great...
