battery trouble

My battery just died. Replaced it. This is actually a 2 part question. Does anyone know where the red wire in my hand connects? Secondly it wont hold a charge. I think my alternator is dead? Maybe this wire has something to do with the alternator?

If it has to with the alternator that wire harness should fit behind the alternator-double check

check the charging sys. at the parts store also check for a draw on your battery.a easy way to check for a draw is to remove the negitive cable overnite.if u hook it up in the morning and its not dead you got something drawing down the battery.
