Why aren't my high beams working?

LOw beams work fine, but when I flash high beams, the low beams go off and the high beams don't work. Both bulbs are fine, fuses in engine compartment are fine, high beam indicator on dash comes on and I can hear the relay in the engine compartment clicking, but not high beams. Is there a separate relay for the high beams? I got another combination switch from a junk yard connected it to the system, but still have the same problem, so I don't think it's a bad column switch. I've never seen this problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I am currently fixing my niece's 1999 Corolla & I have experienced the same issues you are going through (based on what you have mentioned). I have pinpointed the problem to a 30A (brown) fuse which is in the electrical box under the hood closest to the steering column (located beside a 50A fuse). At first, all the fuses & relays looked good but when I shook\lifted that 30a a bit, the heater as well as the high beams worked. I will try to find some type of diagram or picture that will help. I know your car is a 92 but I thought I should let you know.

if you bend the tabs on the fuse just a little without breaking it it may fix your problem so the fuse mkes better contact.

Thanks, everyone. I finally turned it over to my mechanic after exhausting my patience. He found it to be a faulty ground wire from the column high beam switch.
