I HAVE A 92 CAMRY 4CYL. I NOTICE THAT IT SEEMS TO HAVE A PULSING ACTION AND SLUGGISH POWER WHEN I ACCELERATE WITH A PARTIALLY OPENED THROTTLE. I HAVE NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS AND I CHANGED THE FUEL FILTER ALREADY AS I THOUGHT THAT MIGHT BE THE PROBLEM.WHEN I CRUISE ON THE HIGHWAY AT 55 AND THE THROTTLE IS BACKED OFF SLIGHTLY I NOTICE THE PULSING AGAIN AND IN BOTH CASES I CAN SEE A CORRELATION ON THE RPM TACHOMETER. AS I SAID I ALREADY CHANGED THE FUEL FILTER WITH NO RESULTS. THE CAR IDLES FINE. IF I W.O.T IT SEEMS FINE. MY ONLY GUESS NOW IS A THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR PLEASE ADVISE.

Check that the air flow meter is ok, this should still be a flap type built into the lid of the air cleaner box.

I will check ,but I think there is not a flapper type on this car.it Is a 4 cyl..I think there is a air intake temp sensor in the air cleaner and then maybe a mass air flow sensor. I will check and let you know.

Run a scan anyway, not all faults set a check light, make sure that there are no codes logged first.

I just went to go look for codes but I have a problem, I have an OBDII code reader and my camry is a 1992, and all i find under the drivers steering column is a "DIAGNOSTIC" port which is grey in color and is round in shape. I am not sure how to read the codes on this 1992 year model camry. Can you help me ? Thanks

Camry here have a OBD11 connector under the bonnet on the L/H side at the fire wall, (that is on a R/H drive car) you need an adaptor from the Toyota plug to suit your scanner.

When loading car info into the scanner it will advise on what port to use.

you may have not realized i do not have a scanner. i only have a OBDII scanner. NOT an OBDI. I went online and saw a video how to retrive codes using a jumper wire to jumper pin TE1 to E1 on the diagnostic port under the hood on the side opposite the cars battery. I will try it and let you know. the check engine light is supposed to flash and then you count the flashes in between the pauses to determine the # of the code. I will try this then post a reply. Remember I dont have a check engine light on so welll see.

OK, but not all fault codes will set a check light, that is why you should always scan or do a flash code.

ok i jumpered TE1 to E1 on the diagnostic connector as I read in a haynes manual. I got a code #f 21 by watching the check engine light flash on the instrument panel. This is the code for the oxygen sensor circuit or oxygen sensor heater failure. the oxygen sensor on my car is a single wire type. what do you think i can do before i just replace the oxygen sensor? any way to test the wiring if it has a braek or something? what do you recommend to do?

I HAVE NOT HAD A CHANCE TO CHANGE THE O2 SENSOR BECAUSE I JUST BOUGHT IT ONLINE AND I JUST RECEIVED THE PART THE OTHER DAY. I BOUGHT A NICE DENSO O2 SENSOR.I BEEN WAITING FOR A DAY WHEN I CAN CHANGE IT WHILE THE ENGINE IS COLD. I USE THE CAR FOR WORK. I WILL CHANGE IT SOON. I DO WANT TO TELL YOU THAT THE OTHER DAY WHEN I WAS DRIVING I NOTICED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON FOR A FEW SECONDS AND THEN WENT OUT WHILE I WAS DRIVING AND NEVER CAME BACK ON. SO THAT SHOULD TELL US SOMETHING. I NEVER CHECKED FOR MORE CODES YET BUT I WILL CHECK FOR MORE CODES BEFORE I CHANGE THE O2 SENSOR. THANKS FOR ASKING AND WAITING FOR MY RESPONSE. PLEASE WAIT.. I WILL REPLY BACK THIS WEEK.

I PUT A NEW O2 SENSOR IN YESTERDAY. IT WAS EASY TO PUT IN . I CHECKED FOR CODES AGAIN BEFORE I CHANGED IT AND IT ONLY STILL HAD THE CODE 21 FOR THE O2 SENSOR. SO, I DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY, CHANGED THE O2 SENSOR AND RE CONNECTED THE BATTERY. I DID DRIVE IT A LITTLE AND IT SEEMS TO BE RUNNING SMOOTHER. i WILL DRIVE IT TODAY AND SEE HOW IT RUNS. I NEVER CHECKED FOR ANYMORE CODES YET. I WILL DRIVE IT ALL DAY TODAY AND REPLY BACK ON HOW IT RUNS,

Just make sure all codes are cleared first so if a code is set, you know it is a new one.

I DID. I JUMPERED THE TWO PINS ON THE DIAGNOSTIC CONNECTOR AND MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS JUST BLINKING ONCE REPEATEDLY. I THINK THAT MEANS THERE ARE NO CODES. ANYWAY, THE CODE 21 WAS ERASED. I WILL CHECK FOR ANY NEW CODES TOMORROW.
