92 protege mazda turned off while driving wont start back on . battery reads 12.4dc any suggestions ?

Have the alternator checked -seems to me its not doing its job-Start it up and slap on a voltmeter-should read 13.5-14.8 if the alty is good-if it reads 12.4 -replace the alty and recharge the battery
