I'm wondering about upgrading 1992 Jimmy 4.3 eng with newer 3.6 Acadia eng; will it fit?

Truck has excessive mileage and internal engine wear is starting to show thru oil in exhaust, crank bearing rattle, low oil pressure at idle, poor general performance.

No, it wouldn't and it would also be against Federal law to try.

Why would it be illegal?

Because it's a Federal emissions certified vehicle and that would be emissions tampering to modify it's original configuration in any way and illegal in the US. You don't have an operating system to operate it anyway so it's a moot point.

I see. Well, I do see that GM still mfg's the 4.3 V6; but would that still be a moot point to 'update' the engine with a modern one, assuming that I include all the electronics and such to run it?

The operating system is a network incorporated into you car that will not allow you to change to anything except the exact motor that came out of it.
