Yes that can deffinetly cause the valve timing to jump a couple of tooth, depending on how far the timing has jumped would determin if indeed any valves are bent.If after replaceing water pump and timing belt, the engine misses. then you will know if valves are bent.

if you have 4cyl 2.3 engine then no timing problem can occur from water pump belt failure. the timing CHAIN is not gonna jump time. have never seen bent valves on this type motor. but if belt failure caused serious overheating then you may have compression problems? is it running again and not overheating?

Hello,

Ok, with that year vehicle both the 4 & 6 cylinder engines have a chain. So, there will be no Valve or Timing Problems. However, If it did overheat then there could be Cylinder Head Problems and/or Cylinder Ring may have been Burnt.
