when i start it and put it in reverse or drive it wont move just revs and when driving often it will fail to change gear what is the problem and will it cost much

Check fluid level in the transmission and check that the oil is not smelly and burnt, but with not drive like your report i feel that you will be up for a transmission re build or a change over transmission.
