My 92 Cougar I believe is idling high, not entirely sure. Its rpm's are higher than usual and it gets to 32 mph without me pushing on the accelerator. If that is the problem where would I begin to start troubleshooting and would it be ok to drive back home which is about 100 miles before fixing?

Clean out the idle air control valve with a carb cleaner and see what happens
